True education means more than pursuing a certain course of study… It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers. Ellen G. White, Education p.9
I’m Lailanie Fronda, a travel blogger/writer and a vegetarian runner. I’m a firm believer of quality and holistic education as a channel of growth and success. I grew up in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro, and I’m an alumna of PAES (Pinamalayan Adventist Elementary School).
I was in Saraburi, Thailand on Dec. 14-18, 2016 when typhoon Nona’s wrath wrecked my hometown & its nearby towns in our province, Oriental Mindoro. Since I had no WiFi connection until I got back to Bangkok on December 18, I had no idea how horrible the aftermath of the typhoon was.
I was grateful that our house wasn’t much destructed, some of our roof were torn and nowhere to be found. But seeing the news online broke my heart, seeing the huge damage of our town to be particular. My heart sank upon seeing my beloved alma mater, PAES (Pinamalayan Adventist Elementary School), was devastated by typhoon Nona.
Raise funds during race training
My next race (21K) is dedicated to the rebuilding of PAES. Two weeks after my birthday on January 24, 2016, I’ll be joining Condura Skyway Marathon for the second time (February 7th) the second time with the same category. During my training for a month until the race day, I aim to raise the $2,100.00 (P 98,000.00).
Having updated by its current administrator, the Principal, Mrs. Vilma Singsing, I’ve pushed through with an abrupt campaign: run for a cause. PAES’ two classrooms were horribly destructed, and needed to be rebuilt immediately.
Meanwhile, according to Ma’am Singsing, they already started the renovation through BAYANIHAN (faculty & staff and friends worked together to rebuilt it). But currently, more than P100,000.00 (more than $2,128.00) are needed for the reconstruction. They need to buy more materials to accomplish the project. Classes were cancelled this week.
Doing the run for a cause is a simple way of paying forward the kindness and generosity of friends and other people who’ve helped support me in my studies from elementary years until college. I owe to God a holistic and Christian education channeled through my former elementary teachers & former administrators of PAES. Of course, I’m beyond grateful to my parents who chose to give the best educational foundation at home & at church school, PAES. I won’t be who I am now without the institution’s huge contribution.
PAES is true to its motto: “A School that Leads to Jesus”
No better birthday gift than giving
Would you let go of the privilege to extend a hand or make a difference in the students’ lives? Quality education is indeed a great investment in transforming the children’s lives — molding their young minds to be better individuals, to become people of great influence.
To my friends who plan to give a gift on my upcoming birthday on January 24th, instead of buying a gift, kindly give monetary gift/donation for the school.
